A story that is so powerful and well-written that it comes along once in a lifetime and should become part of syllabus' in American schools.  I absolutely loved the story of Frankie, an innocent girl growing up on the privileged shores of Coronado, CA, who volunteers to be a nurse in the Vietnam war where her life changes forever, never to be the same.  It's a tragic story with unforgettable characters and unsung hero's, and a story of will, inspiration, redemption, and hope.  I cried in this book, (mostly tears of joy), and I can't recommend it enough.  My favourite novel of the last 10 years...thank you Kristen Hannah and all the women who inspired you to write such a powerful story!
